The Super Simple Secret to "No Poo" Success

The no poo method means you never clean your hair again, right? Wrong! The no poo method means you never use shampoo and conditioner in your hair but you don't sacrifice having beautiful, clean hair.

There is a super simple secret to having beautiful, clean, shiny hair without using a single hair product on the market. It's only two ingredients and costs a fraction of the products out there.

The secret is baking soda and apple cider vinegar. Once a week I cleanse my hair with these two simple ingredients. My hair is left feeling soft and looking shiny!

Start by dumping two tablespoons of baking soda into a bottle with a lid. Hop in the shower and get your hair wet. Scrub your scalp with your finger tips. Add two cups of hot water to the baking soda bottle and shake it up. Pour the mixture onto your head, massaging it in as you go.

I like to flip my hair over and pour some underneath as well just to make sure I get full coverage. Once the mixture is massaged in, use a brush to comb it through from roots to tips. Then rinse.

Next it's time for the apple cider vinegar. Same ratio - two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to two cups of hot water. Shake it up and pour over your hair, massaging it in as well. Then rinse.

I have thick hair so I always comb my hair a second time after rinsing out the apple cider vinegar.

Baking soda has a high pH level, around 9. Apple Cider Vinegar has a low pH level, around 3. Our scalp has an average pH level of 5.5. What all this means is that you don't want to use just baking soda or just apple cider vinegar to cleanse your hair. Please include both!

Baking soda is abrasive so you don't want to use it in your hair every day, or even every other day, like you would if you were still using shampoo. As I said, I use this cleansing method once per week.

So what about the other six days? It's even easier! The first 1-3 days after cleansing my hair stays perfectly shiny and smooth. I don't do anything else to it. Days 4-6 I simply rinse it with water in the shower. I massage my scalp with my finger tips and brush my hair in the shower to work the oils and/or dirt out of my hair. By the end of day 6 I'm always looking forward to my cleanse the next morning!

Of course if you are super active and sweating or working outside you may want to rinse your hair in water every day and there is nothing wrong with that. I'd still try to stick with doing the cleanse once per week though.

As far as styling goes, you can continue blow drying, curling, or straightening your hair every day if you'd like.

Using this super simple secret will guarantee success with the no poo method! Remember, going shampoo and conditioner free doesn't mean giving up beautiful hair. It means you CAN have beautiful hair without harsh chemicals stripping your hair, without spending tons of money, and without causing more environmental damage.
